Following the former Blues’ defender and soccer pundit, Marcel Desailly’s suggestion that the club might need to bring in a world-class and veteran striker, the pensioners are reportedly planning to get Napoli striker and Argentina international, Gonzalo Higuaín during the transfer window of the summer. Desailly said,
“Chelsea needs another striker. Costa has done well, Drogba also, but they need a third top player.A Cavani, a Higuain, someone very close to Costa [in ability] to be able to think about winning a Champions League. In other areas I don’t see anything unless a player leaves.”
This is following claims that this season might be Drogba’s last season at the Stamford bridge, and the failure of Costa to have a fully-fit season due to his incessant injuries. The former Real Madrid forward who has 16 goals and 7 assists in 35 Serie A games this season is seen as a worthy partner to Costa. Although the forward’s father, who also doubles as his agent isn’t sure a transfer will be achievable despite being targeted by a number of European clubs.
“There are a lot of teams interested in Gonzalo. However, he has a three-year contract to run with Napoli. I do not think he will go anywhere.”
He is currently valued at 29 million pounds, and will be seen as a better option to the 50 million pound-valued Cavani, who has also been linked to the club of recent. Chelsea continues to look for options to boost their attack line towards the coming season as they hope to do more than just another EPL title next season. The Coach has expressed his desire to add a striker to his attack alongside other 3 major signing, and Higuan might just be that striker in needs to do more exploits in the 2015/2016 season.
