In the past 24 hours strong rumors have emerged that Cesc Fabregas has agreed personal terms in Chelsea and is ready to become one of the first signings of an integral transfer window for Chelsea FC. The 27 year old central midfielder is without a doubt one of Europe’s best and most sought after midfielders after reports emerged that he would be seeking a move away from the Camp Nou.
However, the question remains, do Chelsea need a central midfielder such as Fabregas? A player who tends to play a larger role in attacking midfield as opposed to the pivot, a position at Chelsea that is now very scarce after the departures of Frank Lampard and Michael Essien.
The truth is, no, Chelsea do not need Cesc Fabregas right now, as the triumvirate of Oscar Hazard and Willian are doing a fine enough job as it is. The key areas need to be addressed first at Chelsea and the answer to these problems is simple, Paul Pogba.
The former Manchester United midfielder, current Juventus man has developed into one of Europe’s most gifted central midfielders and would fit into this current Chelsea crop perfectly. Playing normally as a central midfielder or in central defensive midfield, Pogba would be the perfect replacement for the gap which Frank Lampard is filling and odds on the Best Bookmakers seems to agree we have a chance of signing Pogba. The 21 year old is not only comfortable playing all over the midfield but is also a powerful, skillful, creative and confident player, all key attributes needed in a title winning side.
His desire to play was evident from his negative experiences at Manchester United, and it shows evidence of a player who is actually interested and passionate about playing football, a rare phenomenon in the current superstar era of football.
The Juventus mans skills are very diverse, he is both dominant physically, standing at 6ft 1in, meaning his aerial ability is a key strength. Whilst also his ability to take on a player, find that creative dagger that assists top level strikers score 30 goals a season and occasionally pop up with a 30 yard screamer all scream the words “Sign me Chelsea!”
There is no doubt that Cesc Fabregas would be an unbelievable asset to this current Chelsea crop but do they really need him? No. They need Paul Pogba, and they need him now.
