The police get involved in John Terry racism row

The incident between the Chelsea captain John Terry and Anthon Ferdinand over a week ago is now the subject of a police enquiry. After a member of the public put in a formal complaint, the police have now become involved and asked Sky TV to provide all video evidence of the incident, which they will then study before deciding whether there is cause for further action.

Anthon Ferdinand originally said that he didn’t even know about the allegations when he walked of the pitch, but as time has gone on he has developed “strong feelings” about the case especially after watching the footage on YouTube (his words not mine).

Ferdinand has now finished giving his evidence to the FA enquiry, and his following statement said that he wouldn’t be discussing the matter again until the panel gives its final decision.

Ferdinand said: “Today I finalised my statement with the Football Association with regards to the incident that occurred last Sunday at Loftus Road in our Barclays Premier League fixture against Chelsea,”

“I have very strong feelings on the matter, but in the interests of fairness and not wishing to prejudice what I am sure will be a very thorough inquiry by the FA, this will be my last comment on the subject until the inquiry is concluded.

“I would like to thank the club, Tony Fernandes, Amit Bhatia, Neil Warnock, the supporters and my fellow professionals for their unwavering support.”

It looks like John Terry won’t be able to give his evidence until later this week, and knowing the FA it will be another fortnight before they give their decision. I bet the police will have a final decision about 24 hours after they receive the videos. Why do the FA always take so long with these enquiries?
