Welcome To Stamford Bridge? Chelsea Could Sign Ilkay Gundogan For €15m

Ilkay Gundogan

Highly reliable German media outlet BILD are reporting Dortmund are already looking for a replacement for Ilkay Gundogan. According to the paper, Dortmund have been flirting with Anderlecht’s Youri Tielemans. The 18-year-old midfelder target has had a good season in the Belgian league which has seen him linked to many clubs in Europe which includes Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool and now Dortmund.

Although the player only just signed a new contract, a deal away from the club is very possible, it only means Anderlect will get more money for his sale. However, should Dortmund sign him, it means Chelsea target Ilkay Gundogan who has also been linked to Manchester United and Arsenal can then complete his move.

This in my opinion is a big opportunity for Chelsea to sign the German if the reports that Mourinho is interested in him is true. With Chelsea having only Matic and Oscar likely to leave, signing Gundogan will make a lot of sense. It can be argued that he is injury prone but let’s face it, no player has a big injury and is out for a year and not have niggling smaller injuries after his return.

I strongly expect Gundogan to overcome his injury woes and to become as good as he was before the injury. Considering he is likely to be available for as cheap as €15m or £10m, it will make a lot of sense if Chelsea sign him. His signing will mean Chelsea will have someone who can partner Matic or replace Matic capably when necessary.
