The Blues’ tumultuous season continued over the weekend as they lost their 7th game of the season to Stoke City away from home, a 3rd consecutive League defeat. The loss saw them go down to 16th position after having acquired just 11 points from 12 games.
There have been call for the coach’s head, as many believe Mourinho can no longer manage the team again, while a players revolt has also contributed to the Chelsea’s poor run. The skipper, John Terry isn’t able to hold the team together, as his influence has decreased following the exit of fellow leaders like Frank Lampard, Petr Cech and most importantly Didier Drogba.
The Ivorian was an influential factor and leader on and off pitch last season as Chelsea won the EPL title and League Cup, and the players have called for his return to the Stamford Bridge to help out at such a trying time. Currently at the MLS with the Montreal Impact, Drogba is free till January following the season break of the U.S League, and the players are hoping the Chelsea legend will move to the Stamford Bridge for the duration ahead of moving to the Serie A, as he is keen for a move to Bologna fc .
A source at the Stamford Bridge said,
“A few players have spoken about how they miss him and it would be great if he could come back to train and reignite the old spark.”
The multilingual player was said to be key in keeping spirits up in the squad, as he could relate with most players and could inspire them. He is also known to take to the social media to post pictures of the players during celebrations. Last season, with chants of “boring Chelsea” emerging when the team played against Arsenal, as a counter, Drogba took to Instagram to upload a video clip of a few of the players heading the ball to one another during a meal. Didier’s comeback to the Stamford Bridge could be the needed step in the direction to inspiring the team back to winning ways.
