There is so much speculation over how Jose Mourinho is going to line up this Chelsea team, and much of it is guesswork. However, with our pre-season games still a bit away, I thought I would have a look at the team and try and work out who would Mourinho see as absolutely nailed on starters. We know how Jose has always played, and it’s based on a strong, resolute defence that makes it extremely difficult to play against. Jose has always played players on their perceived merit, even if that meant leaving big names on the bench. See Iker Casillas and Pepe. So who will he favour at Chelsea?
In goals, Petr Cech is nailed on. Courtois has already agreed another year at Atletico Madrid so there is little doubt of Cech being dropped. In defence, you could argue that only Ashley Cole is truly guaranteed to be first choice. Ryan Bertrand is nowhere near Cole’s level yet, and his place is not at risk. In the centre and on the right, however, there are fewer certainties. Azpilicueta and Ivanovic will have to earn their place at right back, while Ivanovic, Terry, Luiz and Cahill are all vying for places at centre half. David Luiz is considered by many to be one of their biggest stars of the future, but it wouldn’t surprise me to see Mourinho favour Ivanovic for the coming season. Jose is a huge fan of the Serbian defender, and I expect him to get a lot of game time – either in the centre or on the right.
In midfield, I recently spoke about how I believe Oscar will be a huge player for Mourinho. It would surprise me greatly to see anyone preferred to him in CM. However, I believe that most of the other midfielders will have to make do rotating roles. Mata, Hazard and the incoming Schurrle are huge talents, but Mourinho will want to give Lampard plenty of game time while Ramires is the kind of player Jose adores. Moses works very hard when he plays and we all know how much Mourinho loves Michael Essien. This all combines to an awful lot of rotation, but I would predict Mata to be the other most selected player alongside Oscar.
Up front is anyone’s guess, but I would imagine the starring role could very well go to a player currently plying his trade elsewhere. Torres, Lukaku and Ba can all make a case for their inclusion, but none of them overly convincing. There are simply no guarantees up front.
Based on this, I am predicting that Cech, Cole, Ivanovic, Oscar and Mata (narrowly edging out Ramires) will be Mourinho’s Famous Five; the players guaranteed of their place when fit. Tell us, who would be in your Famous Five?
my chose is,(1) mata(he can play cm/right wing if he didn’t play sellfish) (2) hazard(he can play right/left n mf) (3) oscar (he can play cm/right/left/dm) (4)luiz (he can play cd/dm long range give pass)(5)ivanovic (he can play rd/cd )

Famous 5: Cech, Cole, Mata, Oscar and Hazard. A cheeky punt at the starting 11 : Cech, Azpi, Ivanovic, Luiz, Cole, Oscar, Lampard, Hazard, Mata, Schurrle, Lukaku. Based on what we have at the moment. Id like to see a decent DM come in for Lampards place and a World class striker to replace Lukaku. Although Id like Lukaku to get a fair amount of game time. Peace out. Much love 🙂
Cezc. Ceaser. Cahil. Luiz. Cole. Hazard. Mata. Oscar. Cavani
These players will eventually become Mourinho’s untouchables:
oscar-
hazard
ivanovic
luiz
cole
cech and
ramirez
thest will have to fight for shirt but i also see azpilicueta in cos he’s good one on one. Mata? You’ll all be shocked will be used same way as in spain national team.
cech, aslycole,cahil,luiz,ivanovich,mikel,mata,osca harzad,toress and lukaku
this publication is wrong what about mikel obi.standing 4 of all time.
I d prefer : mata , ivanovic, lamps, luiz, acole
Very good of u all, cnt see anybdy knws that none of ths plyer in the mfield cn cver the bck 4 pfectly, like mikel. Well, if we do away wth mikel nd go for all dis mfielder, it ll be easy for us to cnseed mre goals bc all this plyer re more ofensive thn dfensive. I dnt wnt to gues I’ ll waite nd see Mour selection. Goodluck to whoever mkes the startng xi.
5 untouchables
-cech
-Cole
-Hazard
-Mikel
-Ivanovich
the rest will be rotated. Starting XI for most games will be: Cech, Luiz, Ivanovich, Cole, Azpilicueta, Mikel, Oscar, Hazard, Schurrle, Lukaku, Bruyne.
Mourinho will employ a fast counter-attacking game. Mata will be a super sub when matches begin to wear down.
The untouchables would be
Czech
cole
Ivanovic
ramires
hazard
And if luiz stays, nd play as told, then
David luiz and
hazard will be the star men.
Untouchables for a 4-2-3-1 formation
Cech(GK), Cole(FB), Ivanovic(FB), Ramires(CDM), Hazard(Wing), Oscar(CAM), Luiz(CB), Mata(wing)
Leaves these positions open –
1 CB – Terry/Cahill/youth player understudy
1 CDM – Lampard/Essien/
1 FW – Torros//Lukaku
Bertrand and Azpilicueta will deputize LB and RB positions, given Cole and Ivanovic not getting younger
Schurrle/Moses/youth player can deputize all Mata/Oscar/Hazard as all 3 can not be fit always
Ba and Obi should be sold
I think the untouchables are cech, ivanovic, luiz, a new DM, and hazard. With the kind of players coming in the likes of MVG, KDB, and schurill, I see us moving back to a 4-3-3. Hazard and Mata as WF, lampard(MVG, KDB), new DM(mikel, essien), Oscar(remires) in mildfielder.
so what happens to da misfield defence role and mikel?
