Yet More Chelsea Transfer Rumours – Gregory van der Wiel, Alex & Modric Again
With the arrival of Juan Mata at Stamford Bridge last week you would have thought that Chelsea’s business was complete for the summer. That may well be the case, but there are still rumours surrounding players arriving in the next couple of days.
Ajax defender Gregory van der Wiel is on his way to Chelsea according to reports coming out of Holland. The Dutch international has been a target for a number of clubs this summer, but it appears as though they have won the race to sign him.
A deal of €32million has been said to already have been completed and if true could quicken the departure of central defender Alex.
Juventus have been tracking Alex this summer and are looking to strengthen their defence, but they could now face some competition from Arsenal who have now enquired about the availability of the big central defender.
A report in the Sun newspaper today suggests that Arsenal are prepared to pay £7million, but Chelsea value him at around £10million. With Arsenal desperate for new faces that £10million may be offered especially if they fail to land Gary Cahill from Bolton.
Roman Abramovich is preparing one last bid for Spurs midfielder Luka Modric, and reports in the Mail suggest £40million is the figure that will be offered. Modric himself refused to play yesterday, but he played for the first 60 minutes before being withdrawn complaining of tiredness, so read into that what you want, but it appears as though Modric is very unhappy.
Manager Andre Villas-Boas is becoming bored with the whole Modric situation, aren’t we all, and when he was asked about the latest offer he said, “If it happens it happens.”
The Premier League has now gone on an international break with Euro 2012 qualifiers being played next weekend and the following midweek, but it will be business as usual at the club over the remaining two and a bit days of the transfer window.

What do we know about Gregory van der Wiel? as in how good is he? age and so on. Right now I think we need a young and very agile defender in the like of David Luis. What on eart is happening to the deal concerning Avero Perrira ?

please AVB, use your charm to sign modric from spurs. he gets me wet in the pants. I would prefer sneijder since he is a hung dutchman, but i understand if you go for the croat. I would relish the opportunity to touch myself in the stands before game time. Thanks!
Surely not. Spour did NTOT fause Modric to play. Only a cretin would call insisting a player actually fulfilled his contract for the measly sum of circa £50K a week, come rain or come shine, is actually orcing him to play. It’s morally and ethically challenged morons like Augustine who perpetuiate teh concept of contacts only being binding if and when it uits the palyer. A grasp of the legal system might help. I await the learned Augustine researching these matters and then posting in support of the FA backing the rule of law and applying sanctions to the cancerous clubs that feel that they can tap,and flout the rules. Money very obviously has not bought class.
I think, very importantly chelsea has to sell anelka, benayou, alex, kalou and over malouda & drogba new contracts. And bring in quickly a midfielder (modric or sneider for not more than £35m or mothinho) also a winger in hazard would be fantastic, then van der weil and perriera at £25m each max. Then we are fine. Also very quickly wrap d signing of the young stars byrut etc. Then we can beat our chest of a new chelsea.
