Aguero "agrees" Chelsea move – but now the price needs fixing

The projected transfer of the Argentinian star Sergio Aguero to Chelsea is progressing nicely according to ESPN, who have been talking to a “source close to the deal”.

Negotiations for a January move from Atletico Madrid have been rampant for the last month, and now it seems all parties are confident that everything can be ironed out in time for the transfer window.

Personal terms for Aguero have been agreed, and ESPN say that the 21 year-old has “privately indicated yes” to a package that will see his wages rise to £250,000 by the end of the contract.

The ESPN source said: There is still more talking to do, but let’s see. There is now a possibility, although with so many complications involved you would have to say its still 50-50 whether it will finally go though.”

But now the main talking point will be the price for Atletico, who apparently have already dropped from £60m to £55m, while Chelsea are unwilling to part with more than £50m, and hopefully less.

The source added: “Money was the problem the deal fell through in the summer, and the money is the problem now, but we shall see, as I said, the talks are on going and everyone seems to want to find a solution.”

A signing like Aguero will prove that Abramovich is still keen on taking Chelsea to the highest rank in world football, and will give the team a boost in this season’s quest for silverware, although Aguero will not be able to play for Chelsea in the Champions League, having scored against them twice when the two teams met last month.
