The Chelsea midfielder Joe Cole played his first game for the Blues in eight months to a rousing reception from the fans, and he didn’t disappoint them. All his old tricks were on show as he mesmerised the Blackburn defence as Chelsea went on to win 5-0, and it could easily have been much more.

This was the first time that Ancelotti had seen Cole in competitive action, and he was extremely pleased with his contribution, and very happy with the team as a whole.

“I was impressed by Joe Cole, I know he works very hard and is a great professional,” he said. “After eight months it is not easy to play how Joe played today.”

“I am happy for him and also happy for us because Joe is a great player. He is fantastic in midfield, he is a genius and he played very well.”

“After defeat against Aston Villa we had a good solution to set plays because we have a strong defence.

“We also scored four goals in the last game. This is important; it shows we improved very quickly and well. We played very well in our other game.

“And I also liked this game very much because we played very well. It was a pleasure to see this team play today.”

His English may not be perfect, but Ancelotti certainly knows how to get his team spot-on for these home games. There have been 7 wins out of 7 competitive matches at Stamford Bridge this year, with a goal difference of 20 to 1, so it is no wonder that the Italian manager is pleased with his team!
