The Chelsea coach Carlo Ancelotti has made it clear that the Blues are not interested in signing Fernando Torres from Liverpool, as Chelsea already have four first-team strikers.
“I don’t think we need other strikers,” he said. “Nothing has changed because in the next days we have Didier Drogba, Nicolas Anelka and Salomon Kalou back and we have Daniel Sturridge.”
Although Didier Drogba fractured his elbow in the build up to the World Cup Finals, he is expected to be fully fit for the start of the new season, and Chelsea can also welcome back both Michael Essien and John Obi Mikel, who both missd the World Cup through injury as well.
Essien scored Chelsea’s only goal in the first pre-season friendly yesterday at Crystal Palace, and managed a whole hours play.
“Everything is good and there is no reaction from the training, so things are looking good for me,” said Essien after the game.
Ancelotti was also pleased: “It was an important return, he came back very well and played very well.
“He is a fantastic player, we missed him last season and we hope he can do the best for this season.”
