The Chelsea striker Nicolas Anelka has often been accused in his career of being a money-grabber, as he hand his brothers have engineered many big money moves for the Frenchman, and have pocketed many millions in signing-on (and agent’s) fees.
Today he has confirmed that he is keen to sign an extended contract at Chelsea for another three years (with a massive pay-rise of course!), and then he will move anywhere else in the world that he can get the biggest contract.
“I would love to sign for another three years,” Anelka told French newspaper 20 minutes.
“And that would not be the end of my career. After I could go to the Middle East, to Qatar, Abu Dhabi or the United States. I don’t know.
“I have often been criticised for changing clubs. At the same time, it’s good to experience different things, whether it’s in Turkey or Spain. Everywhere has enriched me.
“I wouldn’t be going to Qatar to play in the Champions League. It (the money) is the truth.”
He is hoping a lot if he thinks Chelsea will give him another three year contract as he would be 34 at the end of it. He has been pushing the club since the summer to give him a pay rise and some more years, but so far Chelsea have resisted the temptation. His current contract runs until the summer of 2011, when he will be 32 years old.
