Chelsea and England full back Ashley Cole is being lined up by Barcelona and Anzhi Makhachkala according to various reports today.
The Daily Mirror reports that Cole is a target for Pep Guardiola’s Barcelona and a fee of £12million has been mentioned. Meanwhile big spending Russians Anzhi are rumoured to be offering Cole a four year contract worth around £200,000 per week in wages according to a report in the Sun.
Cole, 30, is in the third year of a four year contract at Chelsea and is reported to be on around £120,000 per week at Stamford Bridge. He is not getting any younger and the prospect of a move to the Nou Camp to play for Barcelona would be a temptation for any player surely.
Brazilian Roberto Carlos is the current left back at Anzhi, and the caretaker manager, but he he retiring at the end of the season and is keen for Cole to join his former team mate Yuri Zhirkov in Dagestan.
Money is no object to the Russians and Carlos said recently, “Suleyman Kerimov (Anzhi Owner) can offer what he wants.” Cole did not win many fans at Arsenal when he left for the money and Chelsea back in 2006, and he could well be tempted by the offer of the money again from the Russian big spenders, a move that would certainly live up to his nickname of ‘Cashley Cole’.
