Ashley Cole has told new boss Villas-Boas that he won’t have to deal with ego’s at the club and that the Blues’ players are mature enough to work under the manager despite his relatively young age.
Ashley Cole who was rumoured to be of interest to Real Madrid has said that Villas-Boas is the right man to bring Chelsea back to trophy winning ways and that the players will respect his leadership.
Speaking in the Metro he said: “Whatever manager comes in we respect him, we are not kids, everyone thinks there are egos at Chelsea, but there aren’t and we have to make Chelsea the squad of a few years ago and win trophies. Age is just a number; he has experience of being at Porto, a big club”.
He continued: “And hopefully he can bring that glory to Chelsea but I don’t think the age thing is anything to worry about, I don’t think the players think about that. He is our manager now and we have to go out and fight for him”.
Cole played down the rumours of heading to Spain, saying: “Never even thought about it. I had issues before where I thought about it, but this season I have been fine, I have been on holiday so I have not read anything”.
The rumours were in part fuelled by the new of his reconciliation with his ex-wife Cheryl. It was thought Ashley wanted to give their relationship a new start in Spain, but they were obviously wrong……
