Atletico President says Chelsea can't have Aguero!

The big Chelsea transfer rumour this week was that they were close to finalising a deal to bring the young Atletico Madrid star Sergio Aguero to Stamford Bridge in January, and that they had representatives in Madrid discussing the details.

But today the Atletico President, Enrique Cerezo said: “Nobody has come to ask about Aguero. Nothing has been communicated to me. Not for 44 million euros or any amount. I am not considering selling him.”

It is thought that personal terms for the Argentinian international had already been agreed with his agent, and with Atletico’s bad start to the season and their ongoing financial troubles they were keen to take a massive offer from Chelsea.

Aguero himself indicated that he was flattered with the link when he said: “I know that people were saying they wanted me during the summer and that there were several teams tracking me but nothing ever came to me and I am happy at Atletico,” Aguero said.

“It’s nice that people say I could play in a team like Chelsea, one of the best in the world. I like it and it makes me happy but I am the same person as ever and I think the same as before.”

He added: “I don’t really want to think about any other team. I want to fight with Atletico to the death. I almost feel like I was born here. It’s a club that has given me a lot, pleasure as well as pain, but it’s a place I feel very happy.”

So we will have to wonder a little bit longer if there is any truth in the rumour or not. Would Cerezo be so reticent if there was £50m on the table?
