It seems that yet another starlet has left Chelsea for pastures new. There doesn’t seem to be much progress in bringing good young players through the ranks any more, as AZ Alkmaar have announced on their website that they have signed the 19 year-old Morton Nielsen on a two-year contract.
He is an attacking midfielder and signed a professional contract with the Blues two years ago, but despite being a Danish youth international, has not impressed the Chelsea staff enough to be kept for the future.
“During the trial he made a good impression,” said AZ technical director Marcel Brands.
“AZ gives him the chance to develop himself further in Alkmaar.”
Neilsen scored twice for Alkmaar in a friendly during his trial period, which probably helped them to make up their mind, and good luck to the lad. There doesn’t seem to be much reason for youngsters to stay at Chelsea anyway, none of them ever make it into the first team!
