Benitez: Roman Abramovich has given up on 'Barcelona style'

Rafa Benitez has claimed that he has spoken to Roman Abramovich and that he no longer wants a ‘Barcelona in blue’, he just wants Chelsea to be winning and playing good football.

Benitez is the latest manager placed in charge of getting the best out of Fernando Torres, but getting the team back to winning ways is first on the agenda.

Benitez said: “It’s possible to play attacking football, like Barcelona, with these players, but I have spent some time with Roman, and we were not talking about the Barcelona style.

“He wants to see his team play well. We watched the Under-21s – me, him, Michael Emenalo and John Terry – and we were talking about the opposition players.

“Roman says he wants to see the team playing well and winning, but not with the Barcelona style. He knows we don’t have Messi, Xavi, Iniesta – players who have been working together for years.

“Roman is realistic, I’m sure. He’s been fine since we’ve been talking about it. He sees how we work and he knows it’ll take some time to fix everything, but he knows we can do it.

“I think we can play attacking and defensive football together. We have to find the balance.

“We have players with talent in attack. We have to give the ball to them to create, that’s our main issue: How do we link with them and give them the freedom to perform and do well?

“But they have to be organised as a team as well.”

Roman changing his perspective on what he wants from the Chelsea team, will no doubt relieve some of the pressure on players and back-room staff alike. I sincerely hope that Abramovich can change his philosophy on managers, and with that hope our next manager (not including Benitez) will be in charge for years to come. We want stability as well as trophies.

Roman isn’t saying no to the Barca style, he just doesn’t see it as necessary. We must win and win with flair thats all. I think Rafa will add the organization the team has lacked, but keep the flair.

Like against Man City we were solid in defence but in attack ???????? Rafa is a man who loves long passing football and fast counter attack, that would help us start winning matches and concede less, though, that would take sometime, the likes of Mikel, Hazard, Torres will find it dificult to adapt because they play more relaxed football but they are good footballers. Lets see what happen in Fulham clash today at stamford bridge. up blues.
