Chelsea and Man City to fight over £70m Fernando Torres

According to reports coming in this morning, Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is preparing to take advantage of the upheaval at Liverpool by stealing their star striker Fernando Torres.

Their are rumours that Liverpool plan to sell of their star players like Torres and Gerrard to create a treasure chest for the new manager, and may delay any appointment until after the sales have gone through.

The Man City owner Sheikh Mansour is also said to be prepared to bid against Abramovich, and would probably be able to offer Torres himself untold riches if he chooses to join Man City, but what he can’t offer him is the chance to play in the Champions League, and even have a chance to win it with Chelsea.

Torres has been scoring goals for fun at Liverpool, despite his injury troubles, but the team around him wasn’t even capable of getting past his old club, Atletico Madrid, in the Europa Cup semifinal, or even sustaining any sort of challenge in the Premiership. Torres now realises he will have to move on if he is ever going to get the trophies to go with his precocious talent.

Typical of the modern indictment of football.

This isn’t a battle between two football clubs for a player

This isn’t a battle between two managers for a player.

It’s a battle between two power hungry oil rich billionaires for a new toy.
