Chelsea back in race for Modric

Maybe in the next round of transfer negotiations, Chelsea should send in their secret weapon Branislav Ivanovic. The Serbian international defender was quoted in the media earlier this week urging Luka Modric to come to Chelsea. He declared that Modric was wasting his talents at Tottenham, and that Spurs’ failure to qualify for the Champion’s league meant that he had to move on. He also told Modric that Chelsea were the perfect club for him and that he would slot in to the team easily and they would go on to glory together.

All the press were convinced that Chelsea were not in the running for the capture of the Croatian playmaker, he was thought to be headed to Real Madrid or Manchester United. Well, if reports in the Daily Express are to be believed, Modric now looks set to be at Stamford Bridge next season. His transfer to Madrid has hit the rocks because Jose Mourinho will not acceed to Daniel Levy’s financial demands, and Chelsea are able to compete with any offer that Manchester United make.

Modric should have been a Chelsea player last season, as he told Tottenham he wanted to move and Chelsea offered £40 million for him on the last day of the transfer window. Levy blocked the move and Modric was extremely unhappy but has got on with his football at Tottenham in a very professional way. If Levy tries to block another move, then he knows that he is in danger of losing the commitment of the midfielder, so he has decided to let him go.

Levy and Spurs want to wring every last drop of profit from the deal, however, and that has already cost Modric his dream transfer to La Liga. Mourinho felt that he was being held to ransom by Spurs and has decided to look elsewhere. Now is the time for Roman Abramovich to strike. I think that an offer of around £30 million will be enough for Tottenham to cash in. They are in need of the money and if they wait too long they are in danger of getting a lot less for Modric as his contract runs down. He will definitely not be signing a new deal with Tottenham, as he feels that they have already reneged on a gentleman’s agreement and are hindering his career.

As Ivanovic says, “He should come to Chelsea-it won’t be a mistake.”

    Modric would be perfect ! The problem with Torres is that he doesn’t have anyone to play the passes to him . Sign him and Hulk and a right back and we will be good to go ! CHELSEA TO WIN BIG !

    Modric is perfect for chelsea. Chelsea should not depend on torres alone and go after few players rather than going after many and losing them all on d final day of TW

    Yes I like Modric, but what should we do with our other Midfielders? Then I doubt we can sign Hazard, Modric & Hulk (over 100 million pounds) so modric or Hulk who would you prefer we sign?

  10. me says

    modric + hulk + another striker (say in the mould of jovetic, ba, suarez as backup for torres / 2nd striker);
    sturridge – out!
    ** of course kalou & malouda assumed out already;

    personally i would sell torres if we can get £25 – £30 mil from juve, and get another top top striker in the mould of cavani, falcao, aguero, rvp!

    I THINK CHELSEA’S ATTACK IS DEPLETED, MUST ACT NOW;
    CHELSEA HAS BEEN KNOWS FOR TIGHT GAME & COUNTER ATTACKING FOOTBALL, RATHER THAN ATTACKING / CREATIVE MIDFIELD; NOW IT IS TIME FOR A CHANGE GET SOME DIAMONDS THERE WHERE IT COUNTS AND MAKES IT FLUID! i would postpone the buying of a right back for now! 😉
