Reports are coming in this morning that Chelsea have made an offer to Everton for the England U21 star Jack Rodwell.
The Independent say that a preliminary bid of £14m has been rejected for the powerful young midfielder, as Everton are expecting a bidding war, possibly with Man City and Man Utd involved.
Although Rodwell is only 18, he is already a regular in the England U21 side as well as for Everton where he has made 18 appearances already this season.
David Moyes has vowed that he will keep Rodwell for at least one more year before he bows to the inevitable and sees him move on to one of the top clubs, but Chelsea are looking at signing him urgently with the African Nations Cup coming up, and the possibility that their appeal over the transfer ban will be turned down and they then have to have another year (or possibly two) without being able to buy.
If David Moyes has anything to do with it, Chelsea will not get Rodwell for anything near £14m and he will push them all the way to £20m or above, especially as the youngster is only six months into a five-year contract.
