John Terry is a Chelsea legend himself, but the 32-year old captain believes he has played alongside the greatest player ever to wear the shirt, Frank Lampard. Terry is two years younger than Lampard and began his career with the Blues three years before him. Despite that, the 34-year old midfielder has played in 33 more games than his captain.
Terry has hailed his hunger and work rate, as well as his amazing scoring record and all round talent. Although there may have been more skillful players at the club, Terry reckons that nobody has been better than his mate, and he would obviously be gutted to see Lampard have to move on.
“You talk about Gianfranco Zola and the best players to have played at the club, but for me Lampard is certainly the best,” declared Terry.
“It’s incredible the number of goals he has scored at a high level, the Champions League and the Premier League.
“It’s his hunger as well.
“The willingness he has shown to improve and try and reach these records is fantastic. He is an example to all the players here and we’re all hoping he does it.”
Terry is referring to the two goals that Frank needs to equal the club record set by Bobby Tambling over 50 years ago. For a midfielder playing at the higher modern standard of football, Lampard is simply fantastic. The only player that is in his league, according to JT, is Ryan Giggs for Manchester United. Imagine if Ferguson had refused to give him another contract at 34.
