It has been reported this morning that Chelsea are considering making an offer to the talented French international defender Phillippe Mexes in January. He is currently at Roma but has refused to sign a new contract and will be able to leave as a free agent next summer.
The 28 year-old will be allowed to talk to foreign clubs fron January 1st, and he is not thought to be short on offers, despite falling down the pecking order under Claudio Ranieri in Roma.
Mexes has recently captained France, and helped a struggling Roma to win a tough Champions League match against Cluj this week by scoring the first goal from a header. “Obviously I’m delighted to have scored my first Champions League goal.” he said. “but the main thing was that we won. We must qualify from this group by concentrating on Roma, playing our own game and not worrying about what anyone else does. We’re on the right track and we must continue in this vein.”
He may not have yet signed a new contract, but he still sounds keen on doing well for Roma!
