Chelsea interim manager Rafa Benitez has stated that experienced duo Frank Lampard and captain John Terry are not ready to make their comeback from injury just yet.
Both players have recently returned to training, and Rafa had hoped he could play one or both in the crunch Champions League tie at Home to FC Nordsjaelland.
The pair have been sidelined for the past several weeks and are yet to play under the Spaniard following his appointment as Blues’ boss on the November 22.
Benitez told reporters yesterday: “Tomorrow’s game is still too early for John Terry and Frank Lampard.”
To progress from Group E, Chelsea need to beat their Danish opponents Tonight and hope the result from the other game ends in a win for Shakhtar Donetsk over Juventus.
Benitez is concentrating fully on his side’s task, insisting they shouldn’t be looking at things outside of their control and believes it will take a quality performance from the whole team.
He added: “We cannot be worrying about the other game tomorrow, we have to focus on winning our own game.
“The main thing for us is to win. Fernando Torres is an important player for us, but we need goals from other players too. I am confident we’ll do well tomorrow. The players know we have to win, and win well tomorrow, we are ready.”
The Spaniard is determined to bounce back from the Premier League defeat to West Ham at the weekend and feels that despite the loss he believes there were encouraging signs on the pitch.
“We have to analyse what happened in the second half on Saturday, and provide a solution to ensure it doesn’t happen again,” he continued.
“There are a lot of positives to take from Saturday’s game. The players are working really hard, and training very well. Every training session the commitment is there, players want to win and they are working hard to perform.”
Chelsea will certainly miss the influence Terry and Lampard possess on our team, but we have enough experience and ability in our squad to get the win tonight. The Danes have been the whipping boys in our group so far, and Chelsea should obtain a similar convincing result to the 4-0 away win against the same team in the second round of group games.
Come on you Blues.
