According to a report this morning, Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has authorised a mega bid for the Liverpool striker Fernando Torres to try and get a headstart on any interest shown by Man City.
Liverpool and Torres have had terrible seasons, with the young Spanish genius seemingly injured for over half the year, and now struggling to be fit enough to play at the World Cup.
Liverpool are suffering financially and are destined to finish outside the top five in the Premiership for the first time under Rafael Benitez, and the Spanish coach has admitted he may need to sell some of his best players to rebuild his underperforming squad.
The Mail “understands” that preliminary discussions have already taken place between Chelsea and Liverpool, and Abramovich is now feeling confident that he is in pole postion to sign the prolific 26 year-old, who is yet to win a medal of any kind at Anfield.
Torres looked very unhappy on Sunday, as he saw Liverpool tamely concede the points to Chelsea, and may have finally realised that he will have to move if he wants to win some trophies at domestic level.
