Chelsea interest in Italian midfielder confirmed

The latest Chelsea transfer rumour says that the Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti is keen on returning to his native Italy to bring a young Italian midfielder over to Stamford Bridge.

Antonio Candreva is a 22 year-old who has recently made his debut for the Italy national team, and is playing at Livorno, but is presently on loan from Serie A side Udinese.

His performances this season have brought him to the attention of many top clubs, and according to the Livorno president Aldo Spinelli, Chelsea are in the forefront of Premiership interest. West Ham coach Gianfranco Zola is also thought to be a fan.

Spinelli said yesterday: “I do not know if he will stay in Udine next season because many Italian and foreign clubs are watching him, not least Chelsea. He deserves all this attention because apart from being a good player, he is also a nice guy with a good head on his shoulders.

“He has the ability of a Totti.”

He seems to be making waves in Italy and I am sure that Carlo Ancelotti will be aware of any rising talents coming up in his home country.

At a slightly more expensive price would be the Valencia super-striker David Villa, who today has told the press that he has had offers to move to the Premiership, despite his agent repeatedly saying that he wanted to stay in Spain during the summer.

Villa said “I have not closed the door on any club because I only have a short career and I want to enjoy my football.

“I have had a lot of offers but I would have to pick the best option, and that could be in the Premier League, which I have never ruled out.”

Could Chelsea be one of the offers on the table?
