The 25 year-old Sampdoria striker Giampaolo Pazzini has been variously linked with Chelsea and Arsenal in the last couple of weeks, but today Sky Sports has confirmed that the Chelsea sporting director Frank Arnesen was in Italy this weekend to watch him play again.
Pazzini didn’t score and his team lost 3-0 to Genoa, but that doesn’t change the fact that he has been prolific in his ten months at Sampdoria, scoring 19 league goals, and 7 in 12 games this season.
The News of the World said last week that Chelsea were considering a £17m bid for the Italian international, and quoted Carlo Ancelotti as saying: “We have to wait before making any move.
“Pazzini is doing really well but if all the players I like were to come to Chelsea, we would have to enlarge the squad.”
He would certainly be a good choice now as it seems that Sergio Aguero has denied that he will be moving to Stamford Bridge this January, despite numerous rumours that talks are at an advanced stage.
He told Marca: “I want to help Atletico get out of the situation they are in.
“I’m committed to the team and I’m not moving in the winter, whatever anyone says.
“I will talk about the future when there is something to say. And the first people I will talk to are the directors of the club.”
If that is true then Pazzini will be a great replacement for when Drogba and Kalou go to the African Nations Cup in January.
