Chelsea may say goodbye to Drogba tonight and hello to a new star

Tonight could be the most important game ever for Chelsea football club. If they win, they will become the first London club ever to lift Europe’s, and probably the World’s, most prestigious club cup. They will take Tottenham’s place in next year’s Champion’s league. They will erase the bad memories of Moscow four years ago and, possibly, see the start of a new era at Stamford Bridge.

It could also be a crucial match for two players. Didier Drogba could be playing the last game of his awesome Chelsea career but, if he scores the winning goal tonight, surely Abramovich will think twice about offering him the two year contract that will keep him at Chelsea. Whoever is the manager next season, Drogba would be a useful if not invaluable asset. Would Chelsea have won the FA cup without him? Would they have beaten Barcelona, “the best team in the world” without him?

Another milestone tonight could be the first of many European matches for Ryan Bertrand. 21-year old Bertrand is a left back, but with Ramires and Meireles suspended and Malouda struggling to be passed fit, Roberto Di Matteo is considering playing the versatile youngster in a defensive midfield role, according to The Sun. If he does play, it will be his European debut and might signal the start of a glittering career for the Blues.

Come on Chelsea!
