Top Chelsea scout Scott McLachlan was sent to the Nou Camp to watch Barcelona beat Athletic Bilbao 5-1 last week, to keep a keen eye on two possible targets.
Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets is rumoured to be high on Roman Abramovich’s wish list, and a bid of around £30million should test Barca’s resolve to keep the Spaniard.
Busquets has won every trophy bar the Europa League with Barcelona, including 2 Champions Leagues and 2 World Club Cups. He has also won the World Cup and European Championship with Spain. This is an amazing feat for a 24 year-old.
The midfielder may welcome the new challenge of the Premier League. He may wish to join our young team in the hunt for trophies and could form a great understanding with Oriol Romeu, who both came through the Barca youth system.
At the other end of the pitch, Bilbao striker Fernando Llorente was also being watched over. The Spanish striker is into the last 7 months of his contract and has released a statement saying he will not be signing an extension, putting a host of top clubs on alert.
Chelsea will be able to offer the Spaniard a contract from January, but with Chelsea actively seeking new striker/s in January, a cash bid is likely to be made, around the £5million mark.
These players would have an immediate impact at Chelsea. Busquets has proven his worth to debatably the best team in the world, and won back-to-back major trophies with Spain.
Llorente has been billed as one of the top strikers in Europe for over 5 years and has a great goalscoring record. The 27 year-old is seeking a new challenge, and we could definitely offer him that!
