Chelsea target Bastian Schweinsteiger?

Reports are coming in today that Chelsea are targeting the Bayern Munich winger Bastian Schweinsteiger, after his team-mate Franck Ribery has decided that he would prefer a move to Spain with Real Madrid instead of West London.

The German international is valued at a cool £25m, and the Sun says that Carlo Ancelotti sees the left-footed midfielder as a perfect fit for his attacking diamond formation as he is comfortable playing in any midfield position.

At only 25 years of age, Ancelotti believes he will be the natural successor to the 33 year-old Michael Ballack, who is unlikely to remain at Chelsea next season when his contract expires.

Scweinsteiger has made over 200 appearances at Bayern (scoring 22 times), where he has been for his whole career, and has played 72 times for the Germany national team in the last five years, scoring 19 goals.

I’m not sure that Chelsea are in desperate need of a midfielder, and are they saying he will replace Ballack because he’s German?

I don’t think rumour sounds very plausible.
