Abramovich Targets Arsenal And Tottenham Players
Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has definitely returned to his big spending ways. After bringing in Fernando Torres and David Luiz the Russian owner is now targeting Arsenal and Tottenham players in order to have another go at winning the Champions League next season.
Abramovich’s dream of having free-flowing football at Stamford Bridge is a consideration behind any new signings. According to the Sun a source at the club said: “Roman has always wanted to see a Chelsea side that played what he calls ‘sexy football.’ He’d rather see a match where they win 4-3 in swashbuckling style than grind out a 1-0 result”.
Abramovich wants to fill three roles in the squad, a winger, a right back and a creative midfielder. Apparently he has instructed the Blues chief executive Ron Gourlay to draw up a list of possible targets and the Chelsea executive has come up with some surprising names.
Gregory Van der Wiel has long been a target for Chelsea, but Cesc Fabregas and Gareth Bale are more surprising names. It would certainly be an audacious move to try and sign Arsenal’s captain after Barcelona tried so hard over the last couple of summers.
Meanwhile other names on the list are said to include Wesley Sneijder, Thomas Muller, Luka Modric, Adam Johnson, Matt Jarvis, Marouane Fellaini, Ashley Young, Jack Rodwell and Andrey Arshavin. The overall idea behind bringing in new players is to lower the average age of the squad, which is currently over 30, although Arshavin is there simply because Abramovich warmed to him during Russia’s World Cup bid.
if this is true and only “if” then next season 2011-12
chelsea will have one damn sexy team
