Chelsea to face competition for Javier Pastore

Chelsea have been watching Palermo’s Javier Pastore for the past couple of months and there were rumours that they would make a bid on the midfielder as part of the project to rejuvenate the squad. However the Palermo president has told the media that he has received no proper offers for the 22-year-old so far.

TalkSport Radio reported president Maurizio Zamparini as saying: “So far we have not even received half an offer for Pastore. It’s not difficult to sell him, in fact it’s very easy, but you just have to know which club to sell him to”.

He continued: “Tonight I’ll have dinner with his agent and we’ll see how things are. But paying the asking price is only possible for very few clubs”.

Palermo are valuing the attacking midfielder at around £40 million, which rules out all but the biggest clubs in Europe.

Along with Chelsea, Man City and Paris St. Germain also thought to be interested in Pastore.

The Argentinian has been with Palermo since 2009 and in that time he has played in 78 games for the side, scoring 17 times and providing 11 assists.

Chelsea will be looking to offload some of their ageing stars, including Drogba, Malouda and Essien in order to be able to bring in new players, especially with such huge transfer fees being asked.

£20 million and he would probably be worth it but £40 million there is no point.

Pastore is great, and young too, but too expensive. Modric will do the same for less.
