Chelsea to sign Liverpool's Benayoun? Why?

I am totally confused by the Chelsea transfer rumours around at the moment. First of all it seems that they are close to finalising a deal for the 28 year-old Dario Srna, and now it seems Ancelotti is keen to bring in the Liverpool reject Yossi Benayoun, who is 30 years-of-age.

The Guardian says that Chelsea have already had a £4m bid rejected, while the Telegraph says that Benayoun himself has told everyone that Carlo Ancelotti wants him at Stamford Bridge next season.

I don’t understand. I was under the impression that the Blues were intending to lower the average age of the team. and were letting all the oldies leave (like Deco, Carvalho, Ferreira, Ballack and Cole.

How can bringing in a 28 year-old and a 30 year-old help this. It is bad enough that Chelsea will have to deal with the new 25 player squad rule next season, withour bringing in another couple of players approaching the end of their careers. We need to bring in some top class youngsters (like Aguero or Pato I wish), and slowly integrate them into the team as they get used to the pace of Premiership football.

Well i guess I can only hope that these rumours are wide of the mark………
