Chelsea transfer rumours May 15th – Torres, Lampard, Rodwell and Benayoun

The most interesting Chelsea transfer rumour today is the Sun’s assertation that the Blues are intending to bring Liverpool’s Yossi Benayoun in as a replacement for Joe Cole. Benayoun has been unsettled at Anfield and is usually used as a supersub by Rafael Benitez, and is looking to leave. The Sun thinks Chelsea could get him for £5m. Is he good enough to replace Cole?

The Mirror has much more exciting news, with the fact that now Chelsea are hot favourites to sign Torres now that Man City cannot offer him Champions League football next year. One thing is for sure, Torres will win a lot more trophies at Chelsea than at Liverpool. Torres coming to the Bridge certainly makes much more sense than Benayoun anyway! But the Daily Mail reckons that Barcelona have now joined the race for he Liverpool striker…….

The Mail also states the old rumour that Real Madrid have made Frank Lampard their Number One target for next season, but it is of course dependent on Jose Mourinho taking over at the Bernabeau after he wins the Champions League with Inter Milan next week. Personally I think there is not a hope in hell of Lampard leaving Chelsea ever!

The Times has a much more likely rumour that Chelsea and Man Utd are both trying to lure Everton’s young genius Jack Rodwell away from Everton. The 19 year-old is hotly tipped as a star of the future, and he would fit in with Abramovich’s policy of only buying youngsters from now on. But the fact is that Rodwell would be unlikely to go straight into the Blues first team, so I figure he will stay with David Moyes for another couple of years before being sold for big bucks. Moyes could only get about £10m for him now, but if he carries on improving for a couple of years……
