Chelsea transfer rumours Oct 28th 2009 – Di Maria, David Villa and Wanderson

Now that Chelsea are expected to get their ban postponed so that they can bring in some players in January, the Chelsea rumours are coming in thick and fast.

The Benfica striker Angel Di Maria was linked with Chelsea last summer in the days of Felipe Scolari, but it now seems he has risen to the top of Carlo Ancelotti’s wish-list as well, and he has got no less than Diego Maradona saying he will become a world class player.

Maradona said: “Angel has the quality to be a worldwide superstar within the next two years. I have always followed his career closely and his level has increased enormously since he’s been in Europe.”

With a price of £40m on his head, i doubt that Chelsea will be interested. It is becoming more and more expensive to do business with Portugese clubs. I think they are still smarting at letting Man Utd have Cristiano Ronaldo so cheap!

The second rumour sounds much more likely, with Chelsea scouts being seen in Sweden to watch the Brazilian midfielder Wanderson. He has a great scoring rate for a midfielder at GAIS, and is being looked at by a lot of big clubs in Europe.

The 23 year-old has scored 17 goals in 29 games this season and is still improving. The story goes that GAIS are having money problems and will cash in on Wanderson in the summer as he enters the last year of his contract.

The last story today also concerns money trouble. Valencia have been mooted as desperate for cash for over a year now, but David Villa is still at the club.

But yesterday the Valencia sporting director Fernando Gomez said that they may now have reached breaking point. He said: “The club made a great effort to keep our players this summer but our economic situation remains very serious,”.

“It was a success to keep them, but there comes a point when you can’t stand it anymore. We may have to sell Villa.”

Is he hoping to start a bidding war? If so i am sure that Man City would win it! But i seem to remember many comments from Villa saying that he has no intention of leaving Spain, so it is likely to be Real Madrid that get that man after all.
