Some reports today are claiming that Chelsea have all but acquired 20-year old Oscar from Brazilian club Internacionale. The creative, attacking midfielder was apparently being chased by Tottenham and the former Chelsea boss Andres Villas-Boas.
Spurs were believed to have made an offer of around £18 million for the player who has been called “ a typically brilliant Brazilian number ten.” Chelsea have beaten that offer with a bid of £2o million, according to the Daily Mail, and have reportedly secured the deal.
If true, this would be a great transfer coup for Roberto Di Matteo and would give Chelsea an attacking line up that will strike fear into the hearts of Premier league defences. Oscar can play as a winger, a support striker or as a deeper lying playmaker. He has played 64 games for his Brazilian club in the last two years and has recorded an impressive 19 goals and 20 assists.
Chelsea fans should not get too excited yet, however, as Internacionale have denied receiving any offers for the young star. The president said that they would consider any decent offers but none had been forthcoming as yet. Whether the club are covering themselves or holding out for more, or whether they really have had no offers is impossible to tell.
