Roberto Di Matteo has quickly turned things around at Chelsea since taking over from the sacked Andre Villas-Boas, and he recorded a third win in a row in the fantastic win over Napoli last night, which put Chelsea into the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
Villas-Boas had tried to push out the veterans from the squad, but it was Drogba, Terry and Lampard who scored the goals to set up the nail-biting extra time last night, and naturally Di Matteo was over the moon with the performance.
“It meant a lot to the club that we’re still able to play in the Champions League and also you could see how much it meant to the players tonight,” he said.
“I’ve had some great nights but I think this will go down in the club’s history, to be able to come back from a two-goal deficit in the first leg.
“You saw the players tonight, how they performed. They showed passion, they showed that they cared about it, about the team, the club and the supporters. It will give us a big boost for the rest of the season as well.”
“We just tried tried to be solid, tried not to concede goals. We’re always confident with the quality that we have that we can score goals. Every win will increase the confidence of the team,”
“For me at the moment I’m just trying to win match after match, I’m not thinking about what comes after,”
“I don’t really think about myself. I’m just focused on trying to win games for Chelsea football club and trying to get the best out of the players.
“We’ve got three wins in three games and conceded one goal. That’s all I’m focusing on.”
Lets make it four out of four on Saturday then five out of five against Man City next week!
Let focus on wining against Toteham these weekend keep it up Di matteo…
