Does Ancelotti even want Torres a Chelsea?

In a desperate attempt to strengthen Carlo Ancelotti’s squad before the transfer window closes on Monday, Abramovich has made an audacious £40 million for Fernando Torres. Liverpool have rejected this offer telling Chelsea that Torres is not for sale this month.

It is thought that Liverpool would be much more willing to sell Torres in the summer transfer period and the player has been told he will be allowed to leave if the club don’t qualify for the Champion’s League.

So why have Chelsea made a last minute bid for the player now?

Taken from the Telegraph: ‘Roman Abramovich sees Torres as the striker who can win Chelsea the Champions League this season, and that is the competition which he wants above all other and which would rescue the club’s campaign. And Torres wants that trophy also.’

It is thought that Carlo Ancelotti is not as sure as Abramovich that Torres is the right striker for Chelsea now. Ancelotti’s view is that the team need to bring in younger talent for when the club will have to replace Drogba and Anelka and given Torres’ age and injury record, he is unsure. However, Ancelotti also knows how important the second half of this season’s campaign is and how acquiring Fernando Torres could be influential in progressing in all competitions.
