Didier Drogba scored Chelsea’s first goal in the brilliant comeback win against Napoli on Tuesday, and despite being 34 years of age he showed that he has certainly lost none of his hunger or desire.
After the game Drogba made it clear that he wanted to stay at Stamford Bridge beyong the end of the season, although it has been rumoured that Roman Abramovich wants to reduce the average age of the team.
The Ivorian said: “I am not master of my fate, but I will stay as long as possible.
“I am happy here, to experience moments like these. I hope there will be many others.”
“Many have said that it was my last game, but the adventure continues.
“It has been a long time since I have seen a Chelsea like this.”
The side were very impressive in beating Napoli and Roberto Di Matteo must be congratulated on turning things around so quickly. Two other veterans in John Terry and Frank Lampard were also on the scoresheet, so perhaps Abramovich will change his mind about getting rid of them all at the end of the season?
pls chelseafc is the only english premiership dat remain in the comappains league let us suppport them
If Roman really desires to reduce the average age, he shouldn’t have let AVB go. Not that I disagree with the move since the results since he left have been far better than expected. Unless they part ways with the true core of the team (JT, Lamps, Drogs) they will not be able to complete that “goal”.
As it is currently, these aging players are playing like the veterans they can be. All you have to do is look at the second leg against Napoli to realize that. The only other way to reduce the age is to play a bunch of 16 year olds next to the Heart (JT) Soul (Drogba) and Breath (Lampard) and that wont bring the silverware that Roman wants (read: requires) of any coach.
