The Middlesbrough and England U21 star Adam Johnson has been strongly linked with a Bosman move to Chelsea this summer, as he has consistently refused to sign a new contract with Boro, but now it has been claimed in that he about to do a U-turn and sign a new £7.5m contract with the Championship club.
Johnson missed this weekends win at QPR due to a family illness, and after the club acted so sympathetically in his time of trouble, he has decided to stay in his hometown.
Johnson would also be able to remain close to his family and friends, and be guaranteed first team football, and the News of the World seems confident that he will accept the new £1.5m a year deal as his way of repaying the loyalty shown by Gordon Strachan’s new club, and to help them to regain promotion to the Premiership.
