Chelsea’s Spanish striker Fernando Torres has come back to warm feelings for his club after the outburst he had following the Champions League final against Bayern Munich, but is it too late for him to keep his place at Chelsea?
The Spaniard has attacked the fact that he was just a substitute in the match against Bayern Munich, saying that he deserved to play more. He even attacked the fact that Di Matteo chose not to put him on the penalty takers list, but all seems to be forgotten now by Torres, who seems to want to fight for his place at the Stanford Bridge.
“At Chelsea I am very happy and I never said the opposite,” he said.
“I still have a lot to do in this club. It has been a difficult year, I didn’t play much and my mind was like a roller-coaster.
“I believe that I deserved to play more. I felt very bad and I would not like to feel that way again but I have never surrendered and I never will.
“When Chelsea signed me they did it with great expectations, and the confidence of the owner and the fans has been unconditional, but my role in the team has not followed that line.
“I look at myself and think I have not known how to be essential for the coaches I’ve had and this is another goal to accomplish which I will, at all costs.”
It might not be as easy as it seems for him, because the Blues have now eyed the services of Brazilian striker Hulk, and are believed to be within touching distance of signing the 25-year-old, who can play as a target man or on the wings.
Signing Hulk should not change things for Torres. Fernando should be the lone man up top, central striker or one of 2 strikers. He and Hulk could be a fantastic 1-2 punch for years.
