Genk Reject Chelsea's First Offer for Young Star

Chelsea have had their offer for Genk’s young goalkeeper turned down. Thibaut Courtois, the 19-year-old was the star of the title winning team last year and is seen as one of the most talented players in the country.

Chelsea have been interested in Courtois for some time but the Belgian broadcaster RTBF are reporting that their first offer of £4 million has been turned down.

However Chelsea will look to make an improved offer that includes bids for Courtois’ team-mate Kevin De Bruyne and they are still looking to bring in Anderlecht’s Romelu Lukaku. Belgium football has been producing some very talented players over the past few years and the Blues will look to capture some of that talent with these proposed transfers.

The proposal to buy Courtois would probably involve immediately loaning him back to Genk for the 2011/12 season so that he can keep getting first team experience. He is seen as a long term replacement for Petr Cech so is not needed in the Chelsea squad right away.
