With Steven Gerrard’s injury problems, and David Beckham being involved in the MLS play-offs with LA Galaxy, it looks like the Chelsea midfielder Joe Cole could immediately be rejoining his England colleagues, despite only making three starts for Chelsea this season.
Fabio Capello doesn’t have many games left to decide on the best squad to take to South Africa next summer, but a fit Joe Cole should be one of the first names on the list. But he may not have had his chance this early, but the added injuries to Aaron Lennon and Theo Walcott has left the door wide open to Cole.
Kieran Gibbs was also a consideration, but he has been picked by Stuart Pearce for the U21 qualifiers next week.
Cole has impressed everyone with his skill and energy since returning from his long term injury, and it is obvious that he suffered no ill effects from his time out, so Capello will be keen to give himself another creative option in midfield.
The England manager will be at Stamford Bridge tomorrow to see first hand how fit Cole is, and if he has a good game against Man Utd he is certain to be picked.
