John Terry – Joe Cole can't discuss contract until after the World Cup

The Chelsea striker Joe Cole has done enough since his return from injury to convince Fabio Capello that he will be an asset to England at the World Cup, and he has been named in the final squad to go to South Africa.

This is great for Joey, but it means that his contract talks with Chelsea will now be on hold for the next six weeks, and if he has a brilliant World Cup then all the big clubs will be queueing up to offer him a bumper contract!

But his captain at Chelsea, John Terry, says they have no choice but to wait until after the Finals are over, just as the manager, Fabio Capello, will also wait until it’s all over before deciding on his future.

‘There is the Capello contract and it’s the same with the players.” said Terry. “Joe’s contract is up and so are those of a couple of others.

“But Capello’s clear focus is to speak after the World Cup about his contract. Hopefully, Joe will do the same. It’s a time now to knuckle down and concentrate on us although obviously we’d love Joe to stay at Chelsea.”

“I could say it would be nice to get Joe sorted before the World Cup, but sometimes it’s not as easy as that.

“We’ve got a massive tournament, we’ve got a manager – you know how he is – and he doesn’t want any distractions.”

Fair enough I suppose. I just hope that Joey has a brilliant World Cup, and then still accepts whatever Chelsea offer for him to stay at the Bridge!
