The Chelsea and England U21 defender Michael Mancienne is asking Chelsea to allow him to join Wolverhampton Wanderers on a permanent basis after spending the most of the last two years on loan at the club.
Mancienne said: “I’ve been at Chelsea since I was a kid and I’d love to break into the first team, but it’s hard for any young player knowing how much quality they’ve got.
“I’ve had two seasons on loan at Wolves and had regular games and really enjoyed it. Now I want to be settled at one club.”
Wolves boss Mick McCarthy is keen to take him back on loan anyway if Chelsea won’t sell, and he doesn’t think that the youngster is yet ready to play in the Chelsea defence.
McCarthy said: “He’s a quality player who Chelsea signed on a good, long contract and I was lucky that I could get him out on loan.
“I don’t feel he’s a Chelsea centre midfield player yet. He’s turning into a good Premiership midfield player. But is he going to win the Champions League playing at that place? That’s what Chelsea want.
“But if he continues playing like he has for us, maybe he can stay with us next year. He’s getting a hell of a good education and he‘s doing a really good job.
“I don’t know if he’ll stay another year. It’s up to Chelsea. I’ve not discussed it with them. He’s their player.”
Should the Blues let him go now?
