The 4-0 scoreline in Chelsea’s favour away to the Danish side Nordsjaelland may have flattered the Blues a little, but Spanish international Juan Mata says it is indicative of Chelsea this season. Chelsea were still only a goal ahead with 78 minutes to go, but they showed their ruthlessness and determination, and Mata believes that these sort of strengths can help them to defend their European crown and do it in style.
“I think we’re playing like a mature team.
“Last year we won the champion’s league and FA cup playing as we played.
“Now I think we can do it better, playing even better with Oscar, Hazard or whoever.”
The way the club are playing mirrors Mata’s own form. The 24-year old enjoyed a great debut season at Stamford Bridge, with 12 goals and 23 assists from 53 games in all competitions, many of them crucial. He was voted Player of the Year by the fans but has started this season even better, already bagging four goals and four assists.
Mata and his international team mate, Fernando Torres, are forging a great understanding which will benefit both players and the club. If Roberto Di Matteo can continue to get the best out of the two Spaniards, they can be instrumental in Chelsea winning more trophies this season. Top of the league and top of the European group. You can’t ask for any more than that.
