Mata wants to win more trophies with Chelsea

Juan Mata is expected to return to the Chelsea squad for the London club’s game against Stoke City this weekend. The Spanish winger was given an extended break after a long hard season for both club and country. Mata played in most of Chelsea’s games last season as well as representing his country at the Euros and at the 2012 London Olympics. Juan Mata joined the club last summer in a £23.5 million deal and he went on to have a successful first season with The Blues, winning the FA Cup and Champions League. Mata scored 6 goals in 37 league appearances last term.

Speaking to the Evening Standard, Mata said;

“The break was important for me because it is a busy season with five trophies, It was a busy summer for me with the European Championship and the Olympics but now I feel fit and strong. I want to play because I love to play football.”

“My first season here was amazing for me but I want to improve. I can because I am still young and believe I can always get better. I would like to score more goals, create more goals and learn to defend better.”

It will be Mata’s first league appearance for Chelsea this season should he play on Saturday, but after a summer full of spending, with Chelsea signing attack minded trio Eden Hazard, Oscar and Victor Moses, will Mata be in the new look Chelsea side?
