According to reports this morning, Real Madrid are looking to shore up their defence in January, and are keen on taking Chelsea’s veteran stopper Ricardo Carvalho.
Real have just been told that Pepe is going to be out for six months, and Florentino Perez wants Carvalho in to shore up the gap.
It seems that they are willing to tempt Chelsea by offering them the services of Ruud Van Nistelrooy, and are hopeful that Chelsea will accept as they will be losing both Didier Drogba and Salomon Kalou to the African Nations Cup in January.
Real’s Sporting Director Jorge Valdano said: “We appreciate that we have an opportunity to expand our staff in January in order to make the squad more comfortable and we will discuss this,” he said.
“We cannot rule it out but first we will have to look at the market.”
Carvalho has enjoyed a new lease of life this season under Ancelotti, after looking like he was going to rejoin Jose Mourinho at Inter Milan in the summer.
Carvalho will make his 200th appearance for the Blues if he is picked to face Portsmouth tomorrow, and he is desperate to get back to winning ways.
“I think I am playing well. However, I can’t enjoy it because we’re drawing or losing. I’m a little bit frustrated,” said Carvalho.
I can’t imagine Ancelotti letting Carvalho go, and it wouldn’t really be a good move for Madrid either as the Portugese defender will be cup-tied for the Champions League.
