Should Chelsea bring Essien back from Real Madrid

When Chelsea agreed to loan Michael Essien to Real Madrid for the season, there was not too much complaining from Chelsea fans, probably due to the fact that the 30-year old had made just 14 Premier League appearances the previous season and did not look the same player he once was. His form has got better since joining Madrid, however, and he has become an important player for the Spanish champions.

Watching him play against Galatasaray, who had another former Chelsea player Didier Drogba in the side, in the Champions League quarter-finals made me think that he should be back at Stamford Bridge. It’s a shame we can’t bring him now, with the Chelsea squad groaning under the weight of the fixture pile up.

Perhaps it is the influence of Jose Mourinho at Madrid that has brought the best out of him again, or just the fact that he was injured at the start of last season and took time to come back. If the rumours are true, then he could be working with Mourinho again next season, but in a Chelsea shirt.

The versatile player seems to expect a return to London at the end of the season, and I;m sure he is hoping that Mourinho comes with him.

I’ve said this time without number that Chelsea needs a coach that influences the players soo much. He’ll make a difference by the time he’s back.
