The Sun leads today with the story that Chelsea have made a £42m bid for the Atletico Madrid striker Sergio Aguero, but they will be told that they must meet the £50m buy-out clause or forget it.
CHELSEA are ready to make a £42million bid for Atletico Madrid superstar Sergio Aguero.
Billionaire owner Roman Abramovich wants to give new boss Carlo Ancelotti a big-name signing.
Yet they face a race to seal the deal for the Argentine striker as the Spaniards play a Champions League qualifier against Panathinaikos on Wednesday.
Atletico are likely to turn down the offer and tell Chelsea they must match the £50m get-out clause for hot-shot Aguero, 21.
Chelsea’s offer would eclipse Manchester City’s £32.5m signing of Robinho as the British record.
Ancelotti said: “The market finishes on August 31 and if there is some possibility to improve the squad we can do it.”
Hmm does this sound plausible? What i am wondering is that if Chelsea are “ready” to make this bid, then how do the Sun already know what Atletico’s response is going to be? That looks a little fishy.
And i have done a total search of the web to find out where this quote from Ancelotti came from, and the only instances are related to this story in the Sun!
But one thing he definitely said, just a week ago, was: “I don’t want to take other players because I think the squad is very competitive,” he said. “We don’t need other players. I don’t expect any new signings now.”
Am i just being cynical, or is this just another made-up story from the Sun?
