Villas-Boas – Chelsea will entertain and win with flair..
New Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas is refusing to be compared to Jose Mourinho. Although both are Portuguese and joined from Porto, Villas-Boas is keen to be his own man at Stamford Bridge.
According to the Guardian Villas-Boas called himself ‘the group-one’ emphasising the team effort needed to win trophies in contrast to Mourinho calling himself ‘the special one’ when he joined the Blues.
In his first conference as Chelsea manager Villas-Boas told the media: “This is not a one-man show, this is about creating empathy, ambition and motivation in everybody. Maybe I should be called ‘the group one’ as I want to group people together and be successful”.
Meanwhile former Chelsea player Roberto DiMatteo will return to Chelsea as Villas-Boas’ assistant. Villas-Boas said: “If you see the technical staff in front of me, and my appointment of Roberto, these are people who like the quality of the game and have a philosophy. It’s not just a case of winning it’s a case of flair”.
Villas-Boas also contrasted himself to Mourinho by stating that he likes attacking football. He said: “Everyone likes attacking football and the Premier League has a certain amount of goals in every game and it should be an entertaining game for the fans and that is what we will look to do”.
With these comments and the news that he is looking to sign new forwards Roman Abramovich will be pleased that he has recruited a manager who wants to win with style.
Chelsea must get players who are in their early twenties, players who can stay for 8-10 years. We must build for the future. Most players slow down after 30. 50million for a 27 year old Torres is not building for the future. Neymar at 19 is the right way to go.
Chelsea needs to either sign a new play maker or give Josh Mcechran first team chance.
