Werder Bremen close in on Pizarro

The Chelsea striker Claudio Pizarro is looking very likely to return to Germany with Werder Bremen next season, after spending the last twelve months at the Bundesliga club on loan.

The two clubs are negotiating a permanent deal for the player who first made his name at Bremen. His return last season was considered a good omen for the club and he helped them to reach the UEFA Cup Final.

He only had one season at Chelsea but he never settled into English life or the first-team at Stamford Bridge, and only scored twice in 21 outings for the Blues, but on his return to Bremen he regained his form and scored a massive 17 goals from just 26 Bundesliga games for Bremen.

Werder Bremen sporting director Klaus Allofs said yesterday: “We are deep in talks with them [Chelsea] and we hope to be successful before August 31,”

“And just to bring an end to all the rumours, if we do sign him then we would be buying him and I think that is also what Chelsea want.”

It’s a shame he wasn’t given a chance to redeem himself at the Bridge, as i am sure he would at least be as good as Anelka, if not better!
